EAA Chapter 1177 members were treated to a talk by Jeff Skiles, of “ “Miracle on the Hudson” fame, at their monthly meeting on February 15th. Skiles, with Captain Sully Sullenberger, safely landed a disabled US Airways airliner on the Hudson River in January 2009, saving 155 passengers in the process. Skiles is now EAA's new Vice President of Chapters and Youth Education. His talk at our local EAA Chapter centered around reaching out to young people and involving them in aviation related activities, including sponsoring a local Boy Scout Troup. Skiles also discussed the recent EAA reorganization and its vision for the future which focuses on youth programs, education and Chapters.
